A group of staff with a big collective heart

It's not spoken of often or spoken out aloud but the staff at STS deserve great kudos for their Staff Benevolent Fund. The gesture started in the late 1990s & later when a long serving term team mate was diagnosed with a terminal illness in 2008, the Staff Benevolent Fund was born.  It continues now, quietly helping fellow staff members & charities.  The story from start to now here

duskVietnam Veterans Day 2012

Saturday 18 August 2012, the 46th (our 8th) commemoration of the Battle of Long Tan was held under beautiful blue skies and warm weather with 150 or so veterans, their families and friends.

Fresh out of hospital following major surgery, the driving force of this service, Peter 'Davey' Crockett took a back seat while good friend and fellow Vet Vic Slockee emceed for the first time (rumours had it Dave would have gone AWOL if John Flynn Hospital didn't let him out).

Father John Darbyshire conducted a reading and prayer while retired Lt Colonel Brian Vickery OAM RAInf gave an insightful and moving presentation as the guest speaker.  Many former serviceman joined representatives from the RSL, DVA, Legacy, South Tweed Sports and Twin Town Services Club in laying wreaths during the ceremony.

Others to lay wreaths included Federal Member for Richmond Justine Elliot, Tweed Shire Council Mayor Barry Longland, whilst State Member for Tweed Geoff Provest was represented by Matthew Fraser.  St Joseph's Primary School Teacher Debbie Tietzel and her wonderful children's choir sang 'I still call Australia home' and 'Advance Australia Fair'.

Club donates $500 for GM54K (give me $5 for kids)

Peter 'Spida' Everitt of 92.5 Gold FM's breakfast show fame popped into STS recently.  He's been riding up & down the Coast daily raising funds for their annual fundraiser 'Give me $5 for kids'.  We were happy to chip in $500 and a quick feed.  Our club members dropped another $200 or so in the can while remedial therapist Ben Saunders worked his magic on Spida's aching limbs! Click here for some pics

It's not just the grass that's green at South Tweed Sports

In the last 12 months the Club has installed a new Chiller unit for the a/c plant and replaced 380 dichroic lights with LEDs.  This action has helped us reduce our electricity consumption by a whopping 283,000 kilowatt hours (16%) and saved your Club over $50,000.  CLICK HERE to read full story.

Recently, we have engaged GreenBizCheck to audit and recommend further improvements to our energy, water and waste use and our recycling and purchase practices.  If you would like some FREE tips to help your business or home improve and save $$$ check out their website HERE and click on FREE resources.
