2006 Ladies Black Douglas Singles for Masters

Finals Day

Semi final results

Davies & Anderson to meet in final

Commonwealth Games Silver medallist Ceri Ann Davies (Helensvale) has ended the run of 1995 winner Di Cunnington (Tweed Heads).

Davies jumped away 5-0 after 3 ends but Cunnington with an 8-0 run in 5 ends led 8-5 on 8 ends.  Davies with a game breaking run of her own, collected 10-0 in the next 5 ends to turn the deficit around and lead 15-8 after 13 ends.

This proved decisive and Davies continued on to 23-9 after 18 ends and while Cunnington picked up a single at the 19th end, Davies finished with a 2 and take the match 25-10.

In the other semi final Carmen Anderson (Tweed Heads) defeated Australian Open winner Julie Keegan (Noosa Heads) 25-19.

Anderson heads to her third consecutive final after winning in 2004 and being runner up to 2005 winner Karen Murphy.

After being down 2-4 on 4 ends, Anderson went 13-0 over 7 ends to lead 15-4 after 11 then 19-8 on 16 ends.  Keegan would not give in and got within 5 shots as Anderson was 'all but' at 24-19 after 25 ends.

On the final end, Keegan held one shot and with her last bowl looked for a second or slight jack movement to make 3.  Unfortunately for Keegan the jack sliced to Anderson's bowl.  Anderson did not play her last bowl and claimed the match.

Final results

Carmen Anderson wins second Black Douglas title

Tweed Head's Carmen Anderson won her eight consecutive game and her second Black Douglas title final this afternoon in front of a healthy crowd at South Tweed Sports.

Ceri Ann Davies (Helensvale) pushed her all the way but Anderson's draw game was too consistent and won 25-18 in sunny but windy conditions.

Early on though, Davies led 6-0 (4 ends) and then from 7 all on 9 ends over the next 10 ends the margin between them was never greater than 3 shots.

Anderson led 13-12 at 19 ends and then with the only 4 shot end of the match and a single at the next went to 18-12.

Davies as she had shown during the earlier rounds, dug deep and refused to yield as she fought to stay in the match.  Davies took 2 shots at the 29th end to trail 18-23 and then Anderson a single on 30 ends to be 24-18 ahead.

The last end typified the match.  Anderson, with a close shot bowl and a nearby second watched as Davies missed with a second shot drive but cleared 2 of Anderson's bowls with her third driven shot.

Coolly and calmly, Anderson as she had done often previously, drew the shot with her last bowl to hold match.  Davies last bowl, a weighted shot sailed wide and Anderson was victorious 25-18.
