KELVIN (Updated Spring 2007-08)
With the 2007 bowling year all but finished it's time to take a breath and look back.
Personally, the highlights include winning the World indoor Champion of Champions, Australian Indoor Champion back to back, Queensland State pairs and the Salisbury Super Bowl Singles. But it was a real thrill for me (and for our Club) in making the final of the Gold Coast Winter Carnival Fours with 3 of our home grown junior bowlers, the Leese brothers; Braiden, Joel and Josh. Incidentally, there combined ages were younger than me! It was such a fun experience for us all and a real launching pad for the start of the boys' bowling career. I'm sure they will always remember the event and the final night, playing in front of a huge crowd with many of our home supporters cheering madly. Remember their names, you'll be seeing them often in the future. Our Club recently made the finals of the Australian Clubs Challenge played at Helensvale. With 20 of the strongest clubs Australia wide taking part, simply being invited was an honour, let alone making it through to the final. Our team of Sally Hickman, Ray Hickman, Nigel Smith, Errol Bartlett and myself were proud to carry the club flag. Despite losing the final to Helensvale, it was terrific team effort. Only weeks ago our Division 1 men made it through to the finals of the local pennant competition. Overall our club finished in third after 11 rounds and we hit our straps over the finals weekend.
Saturday was an unbelievable performance as we beat Musgrave Hill and McKenzie Park to make the Sunday final against Helensvale. Unfortunately, we lost again to Helensvale (with 4 Australian squad members) but another gutsy effort to fight to the end. A BIG thanks to our bowling members who turned up to support the team over the weekend. NEW BOWLERS; If your interested in learning bowls please contact club reception or myself! CURRENT BOWLERS If you would like some advice or coaching please leave details at reception or contact me because its FREE for Club members! These nights are a great ,social, fun night with local businesses around town. You only need 3 to make up a team.
