History

Horizons Art Gallery is a part of the Horizons Function Centre which was built as a part of the $4.3 million extension of 1999-00. The Gallery is the Northern wall of the function centre, some 25 metres in length.

The idea of a gallery was provided by former Director and now Life Member David Jefford. David was the Art Director from 2000-2004.

The Gallery was created for a number of reasons:

• To provide an opportunity for members and other locals (professional and amateur) to display their works outside the parameters of traditional galleries.
• To provide our function clients with a beautiful addition to their function space hire. Similarly, members and visitors have the opportunity to stroll the walkway of the Function Centre to view and enjoy the art on display at no cost.
• To provide our Club with another reason for locals to visit and/or become members beyond the traditional and typical activities that registered clubs offer.

Opening Hours

The Gallery is generally open the hours that the club is open.  There are occasions where a major function requires the whole space and therefore the gallery is not accessible.

Mon - Fri open from 9.30am (closing times vary from 11.30pm to 1am)

Sat-Sun open from 10am (closing times vary from 11.30pm to 1am)

How/when can I exhibit?

The Club hosts a number of exhibitions during the year, two reserved for club members and other designated shows by groups such as TUA (Tweed Unlimited Art) and individuals such as prominent aboriginal artist Mark Daemon.  CLICK HERE for the 2011 program and 2012 program.  Artists interested in exhibiting may contact Art Director Ken Walding (see below)

Sales/Awards

Each exhibition permits the artist to offer their works for sale and while commissions vary, 20% is a typical rate.

Each exhibition is judged by our Art Director Ken Walding and special guest judges for each occasion.
